Profile Photos
Contacts have a circular image.
Appearance | When | Notes |

Outline of a person in white, with a grey background | default image | if a default image appears when someone has a name, make sure the first and last names are in the correct fields. |
First and/or last initial(s), in white letters, with a grey background | Based on First name and Last Name | the letters are always capitalized, even if the first initial and last initial are lowercase. |
Circular photo or image | If an image is provided, it is used. |
Managing the profile photos
Profile photos can be added on the iPhone via Contacts app.
If the contact is synchronized from another service, that service may also have its own way of adding a photo.
Add a photo
If a contact does not have a photo, the default image will have "add photo" (in blue letters) over the current profile photo (default image or initials).
You have two choices
- Take Photo
- Choose Photo
Take Photo
A minimal version of the camera is provided (includes flash and can switch camera).
After the photo is taken, "Move and Scale" lets you select a circular outline. You can move the image and zoom in.
Press "Use Photo" to save the image.
Paste a Photo
If you are in "Edit Contact", you can long-press the profile circle, and then tap "Paste".
Choose Photo
The Photo selector appears, and you can pick a photo and use "Move and Scale" to select a round image.
Copy Photo
In the normal display, you can long press the circle, and then "Copy" will appear
You can paste the photo elsewhere on your phone, although you cannot paste directly into Photos.app
